cool girls

You know how you get catalogues that you didn't ask for every. single. day.  No matter how many times you take your address off the list? Well, the Roxy catalogue is one that I welcome. It all roots back to my secret obsession with surfer girls when I was little. While I never thought I could  pull off the surfer look that I coveted (but was happy to parade around in platform sneakers at age 11? WHY!) I always loved how carefree and badass the Roxy girls looked. And going to Costa Rica in March only heightened my now not so secret obsession. The lifestyle was easy, the surfers were awe inspiring, and the island style was effortlessly cool. So I was pleased to find some wearable pieces that just about anyone could pull off...even if you're no where near the ocean. So go on, treat yoself...

classic with a touch of quirk

We are back from another great wedding weekend filled with some of the best people around. Serious food for the soul! Take me back! But alas, it's Monday and I am at my desk gettin' my design on. I recently came across this home on Design Sponge and love how this house is so calm without being boring. It doesn't look trendy or matchy - it looks lived in and unique. All that white is like one big exhale and the storage shed/kids tree house below gets a big fat hell yes from me.

lazy girl DIY: gold dipped glasses

I love gold dipped glasses but have never seen some that I loved enough to buy. So I got my lazy girl DIY on this week...

And you can too! Read on for how to...

inspired by The New French Interior

There are a LOT of coffee table books in our abode. I love them and rotate them all often. There is so much inspiration online but there is nothing like flipping through a book and marking pages for project ideas. Getting your hands on photos and then making them come to life. I have been loving The New French Interior lately- the simple sophistication of mixed neutrals makes a great impact. Instead of revamping the entire house to meet my latest obsession, I took matters to the table. Voila people...

Now, who wants to come over for dinner?

casa corner revamp

Making decisions in my own house takes forever. We can whip up schemes for a client that are detailed, functional and (in my opinion) beautiful in no time- but ask me to do the same for my house and I am roadblocked. In the design world we get to see new products and hundreds of fabrics regularly - so narrowing down all the options when you have endless access can be challenging. So for almost TWO YEARS this was our entry table situation...

And now, we have a little happy space...

Can you tell I've given up trying to make our house masculine for the husband? Might be going a little far...

treat yoself! eyelet might be the new leopard...

Below is an awkward self portrait that perfectly exudes my feeling about this eyelet top that I found on Gilt a while back. That shit makes me verrry happy - and I have to keep myself from wearing it every day.

So I went on the hunt for other eyelet options that could become alternative staples for the summer and look what I found...

let's just move into the billy reid store

Hello people! Hope you all had a lovely Sunday celebrating Mother's Day with your mamas near and far.
On Saturday evening we popped into Billy Reid's Georgetown store after seeing a flick with some cute friends and before some waterside drinks (y'all- the gtown waterfront is seriously underrated). I knew the store would be a hit clothes wise but quickly realized that the decor was actually taking up more of the husband's attention when I heard, "I want to live in a place like this".

The store is gorgeous with great floors, masculine art, furnishings and beautiful white paneling on the ceiling that barely shows up in the photos. And I actually wouldn't mind a little Billy Reid inspired habitat myself. Every store of his is warm and uncomplicated while layered perfectly. The simple formula is almost noise canceling. Take a look at some of my other favorite locations of his...

DC DO

Living on Capitol Hill has given us easy access to some of DC's best landmark spots. Eastern Market, the National Mall, the Nationals Stadium (and the amazing bar/lounge situation there) and the National Arboretum. The Arboretum is something that I didn't really know about until last summer when we visited the Bonsai garden on a whim. The Bonsai garden was cool, if you're into that kind of thing (like the husband is...) but what really caught my attention were the vast grounds during our second visit back this weekend. It's HUGE! And right now hundreds of azaleas are blooming so get your cute butts over there.

Matthews self portrait. Muahahaaaa maybe he'll start reading this blog now that he's officially on it!
And no that's not a baby bump I just ate a lot of tacos Saturday night...and then Korean food...

treat yoself to some sheer magic

I love the Alexander Wang sheer jumper above and have been eyeing it for weeks. It looks comfortable with a dose of sexy thanks to those sheer panels. Wear it with flats and a little jacket for early drinks or step it up for a night out with some Zara heels. I am still hanging onto the studs trend and this little clutch could go just about anywhere. Top it all off with some Tom Binns on your ears and this steal of a watch and you have a some serious sheer show stopper magic on your hands. (Try saying that 10 times) Go get em ladies.

cinco de mayo!

Feliz Cinco de Mayo Amigos.
I love celebrating Mexico and their delicious tequila and food...and independence of course.
Above is peek at a little fiesta we had yesterday. Hope you're all having fun celebrating!
